SOG Committee Members
Haringey UNISON has a particularly active Retired Members section with almost 800 members in the borough.
The group holds regular coffee mornings and bring & buy sales. There is also a Retired Members Representative seat on the Branch Committee (although the attendant will not be able to vote on employment matters).

The 2020 Retired Members Conference was due to take place on 13-14 October 2020 but was cancelled due to uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.
National Retired Members’ conference 2019
This annual conference was held on 1-2 October 2019 in the Southport Convention Centre. Southport is a seaside town in The Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, Lancashire and is 217 miles from Wood Green, London. The venue was very accessible for the elderly and disabled.
Branch and regional retired members sections, and the National Retired Members Committee meet during the year to decide on the proposals they want to discuss at Conference. These are submitted as “motions” to the Standing Order Committee (SOC). The SOC reviews proposals and amendments. These appear in the agenda or are ‘ruled out of order’. The SOC combines similar motions into “composites”. The order of business is then published in the SOC report.
Next we attended the Regional Meeting for Greater London. The president of the Conference was Josie Bird. A welcome speech was given by Cllr June Burns, Mayor of Sefton. At the beginning of the afternoon session, Christina McAnea, Assistant General Secretary of Unison, gave a presentation about the work of Unison and gave thanks to those who have helped to recruit more Unison members.
Most of the motions were carried. Those not covered in the time available were to be referred to the National Retired Members’ Committee. All the main motions should eventually become available online. At the end of the day delegates had ballot papers to fill in to select two motions to submit to the 2020 Unison National Delegate Conference.
